We know very little about Japanese ceramics; so, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. This bowl came to us from a dealer’s estate. There are two older labels on the bottom. One label says “Late 18th ...early 19th … Edo period”. Is it? We don’t know. You must be the judge.

The bowl appears to be porcelain or some sort of high fired pottery. It stands 2 1/8” in height with a diameter of approx. 8 1/2” and weighs a little over 2 lbs. The item is in good original condition. There is a 3/8” surface firing crack in the center depression. We have louped the bowl and there are three or four bubble pock marks to the rim glaze (see photos) and two production glaze “skips” to the rim edge. Other than what has just been noted, we see no cracks or chips to the bowl.

The rim is decorated with a repeating incised floral design. The flowers look to us to be Chrysanthemums. In the center of each flower there appears to be an incised oriental character. This bowl is very attractive with a reasonable price.
