Please be advised this is a quilt TOP, even if we are listing this under \"quilts\". It is NOT a finished quilt or bedspread, as there is no batting, or backing, beneath the fabric shown in the photos.But it could be used, as is, without doing anything else to it, as a makeshift light weight, decorative bedspread, if the next owner so chooses.
This piece was made of white and blue cotton fabrics, sewn together by machine, upon which the design was embroidered by hand. We are not sure if the design was previously drawn on the fabric, and the maker just had to go along the lines, as we can\'t see any print marks in the white fabric.
The design shows a beautiful lady in a 19th century style \"bubble\" skirt, but with just a black lace supporting whatever garment she is wearing as top. She is wearing a band that supports her hair, and is in the action of opening the cage so the little bird can go free (well, those are our wishes, anyway).
The lady\'s blonde hair is painted in the fabric, as well as the green leaves. Again, we don\'t know if they are actually painted by someone, or printed in the fabric so as to allow, at some point, the embroiderer to go around the contours of the hair and leaves with the hand stitching.
Close-up # 12 shows the underside of this quilt top: you see there the hand stitching and also how the painted green leaves look when looked at from the other side.
The stains on this piece are, unfortunately, in a visible area. We can\'t tell if those stains are washable, but they are certainly old. It is possible one of those new fabric cleaning products can take care of those stains, or at least make them even fainter.
It measures approximately 102\" by 90\" across, it is a large piece. The bed is a queen, 80\" by 60\".
