We are pleased to offer this monumental c1850 Ball Tompkins Black silver tea set.

In the Empire style.

First listed 1852 in New York. Crafted fine silver also sold watches, gems and antique silver. By 1857 employed a purchasing agent in every major European city. By 1859 offered Prestige Alloy silver, 925 (sterling) purity.

Bearing a family crest of a nesting swan feeding her chicks, above Gothic ACP.

In robust tapering urn wide petal fluted form.

Shoulder and rim with streaming leaf tip borders, in the French Empire taste.

Leaf crown and wrapped spout.

Panel twin collar and disc center feathered leaf handle. Rising from split leaf terminal.

Atop acanthus cap banded ankle lion claw and ball feet.

This monumental c1850 teapot is 10 1/2 inches and 40 1/2 standard ounces.

The sugar is 8 inches and 28 1/2 ounces.

Cream jug 7 3/4 tall and 16 ounces.

Waste bowl 6 1/2 and 22 ounces.

The entire tea set 107 standard ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.

In excellent condition. Rich lusterous silver patina throughout. The scrolling bird and bushel, wheat finial lion spout and feet retain near original rich detail. Stands firm on table. Few tiny dints and mild wear.
