Original Central Savings Bank of St. Louis, Missouri check written and signed by Confederate Brigadier General William R. Boggs (1829-1911), an 1853 West Point graduate who resigned his commission in the US Army in February, 1861 to become ordnance officer for General Beauregard in Charleston, SC. He was chief engineering officer for the state of Georgia in 1862 and was promoted to Brigadier General, CSA on November 4, 1862. He was General Kirby Smith\'s chief of staff in the Trans-Mississippi Department for most of the remainder of the war. At the time this check was written, he was a practicing civil engineer in St. Louis. He died in Winston-Salem, NC in 1911. This check is dated January 22, 1873 and is written the amount of $59.50.
