A lovely antique bronze inkwell with a slightly worn gold patina, signed F. Barbedienne .....
From an estate, here in Wisconsin. (I bought this piece at the Schrager sale Gallery in Milwaukee around 10-12 years ago. It was part of a huge antique inkwell collection that was being disbursed.)
It measures about 8 3/4\" in diameter and about 5 1/4\" in height. The inkwell weighs just over 2 pounds. The white ceramic insert is a contemporary replacement, I believe.
The condition is fair-to-good, used condition. The tightly fitting lid does close completely, but you need to push it down in front, with your thumb. So maybe the hinge pin is slightly bent. The gold gilded finish shows wear spots and has dark spots of \"patina\" on the tray. My guess is that it was polished, removing some of the gilding. Nothing is broken or missing.
