MerryvaleFabric Packetswere produced monthly from 1993 to 2007.They featured fabrics selected from a new fabric collection created forquilt making. They are cut intosix-inch squares and usually contained 26 pieces. Fabric collections rotated to present quilters with avariety of new fabrics being produced by leading companies in theindustry. Tonga Batiks,a collection of hand dyed fabricsproduced in Indonesia for Timeless Treasures Fabrics, Inc. Batiks remain a strong favorite ofcontemporary quilters because of the vibrant colors, interesting textures, andthe originality of non-repetitive prints.The lack of predictability and continuity is one of the most desirablefeatures of batiks. It presentsquilters with an almost infinite palette of interesting and unique elementswith which to highlight and accentuate focal points in a quilt.
Tonga Batikscome in seven \"prints\" plus a variety of\"wash\" hand-dyes featured in this Merryvale packet. There are two floras, two\"native\" prints, and two textures--including a light and lively polkadot. In addition ,a multicolor\"grid\" motif resembles a stylized Mercator map when viewed by theyard--alive with color! The colorspectrum ranges from deep greens to rich blues and purples, to bright yellowand a red-to-maroon sequence. Aswith any batik or hand-dyed fabric, manufacturers recommend a colorfastcheck.
NOTE:Fabrics in this packet evolve over time as prints are discontinued andnew ones are introduced. Though Iattempt to keep my pictures current, the vary nature of stocking batiksmeans that occasionally a print of two may vary.
Note:The manufacturer recommends pre-washing batiks to ensure their integrityin quilting projects.
