I have compiled a wealth of unique treasures, antiques and artworks from Asia with a fantastic and mysterious history from travels, China, Japan, Bali, Tibet, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Taiwan, Philippines, Laos and Vietnam.

My fascination with Asia inspired me to move here from England and become an avid collector/buyer of Asian oriental antique statues, carvings, puppets, bronzes and unique objects, other items have been from years of collecting and accumulating from estates, private collections and sales.

Korwar Figure, Biak,

The images are taken with te purpose deceased ancestors who give bodiless on Earth and a new body. This korwar is made of wood, in vary rare cases limestone. Most have a huge head sitting on a smaller lower abstract body, and thus has a primitive form of a human being. Originally the skull of the deceased ancestor was processed and was the main part of the image with the skull resting in the wood. The use of skulls was banned at the beginning of the last century at the request of the Dutch government in Biak. Korwar figures serve to keep surviving relatives in contact with their deceased ancestors and thus always being able to secure their powerful blessings. They serve as a medium of communication between the living and the dead. Korwars may be standing or squatting figures.

Due to the size, shape and being slightly fragile, some pieces will have to be specially wrapped, boxed and insured for loss only which shows in the shipping cost, I do not intend to take any chances with these pieces, better safe than sorry, it would be heart breaking to think it arrived broken and deserves looking after.
