Thisis a rare December 10th, 1959 playbill from the one-night, Pre-Broadway engagementoftheNORMAN CORWINplay \"THE WORLD OF CARL SANDBURG\"at the RKO-Orpheum Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. (Following an ambitious tour and summer hiatus, the productionopened September 14th, 1960 atHenry Miller\'sTheatre in New York Cityandclosed after only 29performances.) ..... Based on the works of CARL SANDBURG, the play starredthe legendary BETTE DAVIS and her husband GARY MERRILLand featuredCLARK ALLEN ..... Side Note: Bette Davis and Gary Merrill struck romantic sparks while making All About Eve (1950), and married in July of 1950.In 1959, when they agreed to co-star inthe touring stage production ofThe World of Carl Sandburg, the marriage was already rocky, and they divorced the following year on July 6th, 1960.When the production resumed performances, Gary Merrill was replaced with actor LEIFERICKSON.
