British 1845/54 Pattern Infantry Officer\'s Sword Victoria Imperatrix CypherThis is an interesting late example of a 1845 infantry officers sword. The hilt is in excellent condition with just some slight damage to the leather grip (officers\'s on Indian service sometimes preferred a leather grip as they gave a better hold). The wiring is present and correct. The blade is nicely etched and retains nearly all of its original polish. Both the hilt and the blade bear the cypher VRI for Victoria Imperatrix; this indicates that this sword would have been purchased and used by an officer serving in India. The scabbard is in fine condition, though the wooden liners are missing, with no knocks or dings and just the odd minor sign of corrosion here there.
