The item up for sale is an original advertising handbill for a quack medicine addiction cure made circa 1897-1900.
The front reads in part : \"The Fayette County Branch of the Disbrow Cure Co. Disbrow Cure Co. 28 South Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, PA. Are You in Feeble Health? Nervous, Irritable and Sleepless unless aided by some stimulants? Had delirium tremens? Have you the craving for strong drink or any of the narcotics? The Disbrow Cure will relieve you of this and you will enjoy refreshing sleep and feel the vigor of youth again. Begin treatment at once and be a free man. [etc..] When liquor, Opium, Cocaine or Tobacco fasten its fangs in the human system the will power is imperiled and the overthrow of manhood is threatened. [etc...].\"
The back side reads in part : \"For the Cure of Drink Habit, Tobacco Habit, Morphine Habit, Opium Habit, Cocaine Habit, Chloral Habit. [etc...] No padded cells or dark room. Patients under constant care of skilled physicians. Duration of treatment four weeks. Terms Moderate.\"
It is not dated. The company was founded in 1897. I have only found a few references on internet searches in which the company was mentioned in papers & annual business reports dated 1897, 1898 and 1900. The company appears to have folded in 1900.
The sheet measures 9 3/8 X 6 3/4 inches and is in fair condition due to age toning, foxing spots, small tears on the edges, buckling of the sheet, a stain in the upper right corner,and losses & chipping along the right edge & in the right-hand corners.
