You are offerding ona Griswold Rabbit Cake Mold. Manufactured byGriswold c1930. In 1865, two Erie families associated by marriage, joined in amodest venture to manufacture door hinges. The Selden and Griswold union pavedthe way for The Griswold Manufacturing Company of Erie, Pennsylvania, recognized world wide as producers of fine cast iron products, especiallycookware. Between 1865 and 1957 when they closed production of the plant at thecorner of 12th and Raspberry Street, their line of cookware had beensold and used around the world. Their designers and engineers produced manypatents spanning almost 100 years of manufacture. Before the turn of the 20thcentury, they added cast aluminum products to their line. In the 1920\'s theyenameled some cookware and by the 1930\'s they offered electric items to theirproduct list. They produced commercial pieces for use in restaurants. Thecompany was in trouble by the 1940\'s for a variety of reasons. Many productswere being introduced by other cookware companies that seemed more attractiveto modern cooks. Problems within the company between management and employeeswidened, the quality of the products seemed to decline, and in 1957 the doorsof GMC closed leaving 60+ employees without jobs. This mold has been made withthe two different pieces, one is nickel plated and one is plain cast iron, theplain cast iron one has a hair line at the neck, pictured. The Rabbit is stampedwith 862 on the front and one halve is stamped 863, also has Griswold MFG COErie PA. There are no cracks, chips, breaks other than any stated. 11 1/2” tallx 11 1/2”. I don’t have a Griswold book in my reference books but the ones Ihave seen go for $100-$150 on .

.

Most of the banks today selling for$200-$400 were $15-$50 in the mid 1970’s, big money when the reference guides Ihave were printed.
