Ahigh qualityart deco lamp by François CARION the famous Brussels based belgian blacksmith (1884 - ?). Theiron is signed F.Carion and holds a signed Schneider shade in orange and light-pink mottled glass paste. Authentic lamp that can be dated around 1925.The lamp is in superb condition. It is23.5 cm high (9-1/4\") and about 34cm long. Rewired with new rayon covered twistted cord and it holds its old european E27 socket.For the US I will rewire the lamp with a US candelabra base socket and 2-prong plug.Thebase is numbered 15245. Often people think the numbers on the iron of Carion refer to models in a catalogue. But this is not the case. I have had several times the same model with different numbers andonce I had two different items with the same number. I haveoriginal invoices showing thatthey refer to order numbers. Sometimes we also find the word \'belgium\' on his iron. These pieces were made for exportand I\'veseen this mark mainly on items I found in the USA.Carion either used belgian made shades in cheap thin pressed glass or the more luxerous glass paste shades he ordered in France at the glass manufactory of Charles Schneider. At the end of the ad I\'ve added a slideshow with other Carion pieces I have had and ones I have in my private collection.

François CarionThe revival of wrought iron by the beginning of the 20th century was not in the last place caused by the inventions of new techniques develloped by blacksmiths like Edgard Brandt and others. InBelgium the road was paved by two famous \"ferronnier d\'art\" and each of them created a school of followers. The flamish blacksmith Louis van Boeckel (1857-1944)with his very detailed and naturalistic style and the wallonian smith F. Carion. Over the years more then 200 young men became master in the arts working in the company of van Boeckel and many of them later had their own successfull workshop. Van Boeckel already wellknown, he was commissioned to make the gates of the Whitehouse in Washington, was at the top of his carreer in 1900 when he won amongst 378 blacksmiths from all over the world the highest decoration at the worldexhibition in Paris in 1900.As for François Carion (1884- ?) the Brussels based smith being the top of Belgian art déco. For 16 years he was a teacher at the ecole industrielle of Sint-Gilles yet stopped teaching when he lost hisright handin an accident and specialised himself in the production of small pieces like lamps mirrors candle-sticks and small tables.(paravas-2009)

La ferronnerie est signée F.Carion et porte unebelle tulipe signée Schneider - signature de 1924-28 (ref. Edith Mannoni).Pièce authentique entrès bon état. La hauteurest de 23.5 cm, longeur env. 34cm.Câblage électrique refait à l\'ancienne; fil tissu torsadé. Douille à vis E27.Lebase est numérotée 15245. Souvent, les gens pensent que le numéro inscrit sur le fer représente un numéro de modèle dans le catalogue mais ce n\'est pas le cas. J\'ai plusieurs fois rencontré le même modèle avec différents numéros età l\'inverse2 modèles différents avec le même numéro.Je possèdede vieillesfactures de Carion et ces numéros correspondent à des numéros d\'ordre.Parfois, on retrouve le mot \"belgium\" sur ses ferronneries, il s\'agit alors de pièces produites pour l\'exportation ; j\'ai essentiellement vu cela sur des pièces trouvées aux Etats-Unis.

L\'une desprincipales originesdu renouveau du fer forgé, au début du XXème siècle,futl\'invention de techniques nouvelles, par Brandt et quelques autres ferronniers.En Belgique, la route avait déjà été tracée par 2 ferronniers d\'art, et chacun d\'eux avait créé sa propre école : le flamand Louis van Boeckel, avec son style naturaliste aux détails très précis, et le wallon François Carion. Au fil des ans, plus de 200 jeunes ouvriers ont été formés par van Boeckel, et beaucoup d\'entre eux ont ensuite ouvert, avec succés, leur propre atelier. Van Boeckel, déjà bien connu (il avait été choisi pour confectionner lesclôtures de la Maison Blanche de Washington) était alors au sommet de sa carrière lorsque, à l\'exposition universelle de paris, en 1900, il fut désigné, parmi 378 autres ferroniers, pour recevoir la plus haute décoration. Concernant le ferronnierbruxellois François Carion (1884- ?), grande figure de l\'Art Deco belge, il fut pendant 16ans formateur à l\'Ecole Industrielle de Saint-Gilles, ou il forma de nombreux ferronniers, mais arrêta l\'enseignement après qu\'un accident lui eût fait perdre un bras, est se spécialisa alors dans la production de petites pièces, telles quemontures pour des vases en grès,lampes, mirroir et petites tables...
