CIVIL WAR CLIPS MAR 10 1862 MEMPHIS TN FRANCE BURN COTTON REBEL CONGRESS DRAFT 2:
$17.99

This sale is for clippings taken from a HUGE scrapbook that had HUNDREDS of clippings aboutthe civil war. Except for a single article, all of the articles span amere few months during the year 1862.I will be listing all of the articlesfrom the scrapbook in the weeks (and probably months) to come. Idiscerned the dates of the clippings a variety of ways: some have thedate printed on the clipping; on some, the person who made the scrapbook handwrote the date at the top; on some, I had to judge by the position in thescrapbook (they were in chronological order). The bottom line is that thedate I have assigned to these listing may not be the exact date of publication,but will be pretty darn close to it.

Most of the clippingshad been cut up to fit within the pages of the scrapbook. They have now beenreassembled, much like a jigsaw puzzle, and held together on the back witharchival-quality mending tissue. This is NOT Scotch tape! It contains no acidor lignin that would harm the paper over time. It should not be removed.

These clippings containthe following stories (not a complete list):

-Tennessee Gov. Harris\'s reaction to northern troops in Nashville;

-Full report of debate in the french senate, in which Napoleon participated;

-Excitement in Memphis - very few Rebel Troops there, legislature scattered, Gov. Harris attempting to rally the people;

-The Return of Cotton (not expected for some time to come);

-The New Rebel Cabinet; The Rebel Congress;

-Determination of Confederate states to burn their cotton;

-Letter of Gov. Joseph Brown of GA urging people not to plant cotton this year;

-Desperate efforts to raise soldiers in the south;

-Lt. Col. Edward Cantwell appointed military governor of Norfolk;

-Arms of the southern confederacy - the blocade run;

-Rebel news from the west;

-The TN legislature;

-The Rebel army in TN falling back from Murfreesboro TN to Decatur, AL.

If you are a collectorof Civil War memorabilia, these are a must have for your collection!
