This is a very fine antique Knights Templar Chapeau made in old Philadelphia by one of the most important historic makers of swords and regalia, the great Horstmann. The hat is quite handsome. Being very old, there is some normal expected minor age wear here and there. There is some common shedding of the ostrich plumes, but it is not serious (by the way, replacement feathers are readily obtainable at most of today\'s regalia companies). The beaver fur still glistens after all these years and there are only some minor losses (mostly along the edges). The silk lining is beautiful! And how solid and relatively clean the leather sweatband is! The hat\'s overall structure is most solid. The inside circumference is approximately 21½ inches. The hat was created by the legendary historic firm of “Horstmann of Philadelphia”. One of the all-time great American makers of Military and Fraternal Swords, Horstmann ranks mighty high alongside “The Ames Sword Company”, “ M. C. Lilley & Co” and “The Pettibone Bros”.
