CODY FOSTER Set of 3 Vintage-Style ~ PASTEL PUTZ HOUSE ORNAMENTS ~ New & Unused!
I am delighted to offer Cody Foster\'s beautiful, Retro-style Holiday Houses, including this wonderful Set of 3 House Ornaments in lovely Pastel shades. Although designed as hanging Ornaments, this Set is a perfect \"under Tree,\" size. These Houses are Cody Foster \"classics\" and a new addition to his fabulous offerings from the amazing folk art studio of ~Cody Foster & Co.~ (formerly known as ~Backporch Friends~). They are part of a fantastical series of fanciful Folk Art Houses, Churches, and Castles from the fertile imagination and talented hands of renown American Folk Artist, Cody Foster and part of his ~Holiday Adornments~ Collection. Don\'t miss out on adding these to your collection!

This ~Set of 3 Putz Houses~ is a genuine, authorized reproduction of Cody Foster\'s original art work. True \"Retro\" works of art, these pieces are crafted from paper board & pâpier maché (paper mache); hand painted and decorated in a mix of pastel colors; lovingly aged and distressed; and finished with a number of fantastic \"vintage\" details. This Set would be a wonderful addition to any Folk Art collection, and they make absolutely enchanting holiday decorations!

These terrific pieces are fashioned in the style of the vintage cardboard Christmas or \"Putz\" houses manufactured in Germany, Japan, and the United States throughout the mid-1900\'s. They were readily available & affordable decorations found in every dimestore from 1928 through the 1960\'s. Often sold in sets, they were used to constructed elaborate Christmas villages which were \"landscaped\" with their popular Retro counterpart ~ the \"Bottle Brush\" Tree.

This terrific set is true in size, scale, and design to its original ancestors. These are Cody\'s intermediate sized Houses ~ large enough to display individually or perfect grouped together as a little Christmas village! You will receive 3 different buildings in all 3 colorways. The buildings range in height from 4¼-inches to 4¾-inches tall.

The amount of detail on these lovely pieces is remarkable. Each building is constructed of heavy paper board which has been hand painted and flocked with sanded gesso giving it a slightly \"gritty,\" stucco texture. The walls of the Houses are painted in terrific shades of turquoise and lilac. Each Building has a different coloration, giving each piece a unique, \"custom\" look.

Each House also has a different roof style or line with different peaks and gables. The roofs are painted in matte and metallic shades which contrast nicely to the walls. The Houses have little square chimneys poking from their tops. Each roof is crowned with white gesso dusted sanding to mimic drifts of new fallen snow.

Each of the Houses has two or more windows of varying size and design. The windows have traditional gold paper \"leading\" framing their panes; and they are backed with heavy, frosted cellophane. The original Cardboard Houses were designed to be lit from inside with a Christmas bulb which made the windows glow, like real stained glass. Each piece has other unique design details, such as contrasting doorways and little, eaved porticos topped with more \"snow.\"

Each edifice sits on a stiff, paper board base painted in shades of winter white. The bases topped with vintage white \"snow\" created from sanded gesso. The corners and edges of the bases are decorated with sections of saw tooth or corrugated fencing. The fences are painted ivory.

Each piece is landscaped with lovely, miniature, Retro-style Bottle Brush Trees and Shrubs. Just like their vintage counterparts, these Trees are crafted from genuine sisal, and trimmed in a conical or rounded shape around twisted wire \"trunks.\" And, each of these Trees is hand dyed like Cody\'s larger Bottle Brush Trees. The Trees are shades of dark to medium green and brown. Each one is lightly flocked with white gesso \"snow.\" The tiny Trees range in height from 2¼-inches to a diminutive ¾-inch.

I\'m crazy about Cody\'s little Villages! Every time I look at this Set, I see more tiny details! You can almost hear the snow falling. . . This Set is an amazing work of heirloom Folk Art! Its Retro coloring blends beautifully with any holiday decorating theme, and it looks fantastic with traditional Christmas colors. You may even want to keep pieces like this out all year. As the original Cardboard Houses become more expensive and difficult to find, Cody\'s work makes these gorgeous pieces available to a whole new generation. What a wonderful way to start a new family holiday tradition!

These imported Houses are brand new and unused. They are in MINT condition and ready for your holiday decorating! Each comes with a cotton cord for hanging on a tree, wreath or garland. However, they also look fabulous in a holiday diorama on a buffet, under the Christmas tree, or perched on a mantel or shelf. They are perfect with a Christmas train set! If you can bear to break up this Set, each House make a lovely stocking stuffer or package topper. Give one to each member of your family and have them reunite the Village every year for Christmas. . .

With its very Retro feel and appearance, this Set fits beautifully into \"Shabby,\" \"Cottage Chic,\" \"Paris Flea,\" \"Retro,\" or \"Garden Style\" decor. The Houses look wonderful displayed with your cherished vintage collectibles, and they\'re sure to make a reappearance for many holidays to come! This Set blends beautifully with other primitive folk art and real vintage collectibles. Be sure to see my other sales for more of Cody Foster\'s amazing holiday Houses and his famous Bottle Brush Trees! (The larger Trees pictured are not included, but are available in my other listings.)

>\"As a little boy, Foster had spent much of his spare time with his grandmothers, both of whom created crafts as gifts for family and friends. Only occasionally did they sell to shops or at craft shows, but when they did, Foster was usually in tow. They kept their grandson out of mischief by teaching him to thread a needle and sew rag dolls. \'I remember sitting at this one really boring craft show and [beginning to doodle],\' he says. \"When I got home, I made Sunshine Suzy-Q, my first doll.

Foster began selling his creations by the time he was a sophomore in high school, doing craft shows in small communities in northern Nebraska and in larger areas such as Omaha and Rapid City, S.D. He admits to playing hooky from school to get ready for the shows. As a high school senior, he was approached by a wholesale rep who wanted to represent him; the rep quickly got him into his first wholesale show in metropolitan Kansas City just two weeks after his high school graduation.

Cody\'s designs have become nationally recognized. His work has been featured in Country Living magazine, the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City, and in high-end boutiques, museum shops, and department stores across the country. His work is prized by designers and collectors alike, for their unique and whimsical charm.\" ~ © 2002 College of Business Administration, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
