This is an antique, Regency era Black Japanned Papier-Mache TRAY marked CLAY KING ST COVT GARDEN. THE BLACK TRAY HAS A RICH FLORAL ARRANGMENT WITH GOLD ACCENTS ON RIM. Henry Clay patented his Papier-Mache in 1772 and became Japenner-in-Ordinary to George III. He opened his shop in Covent Garden in 1800. The tray comes with a later made base table. The tray measures approximately 30 inches x 24 inches. The tray on table measures 20 inches tall. THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD, THERE IS A SMALL FLAW ON BACKSIDE OF TRAY RIM AS SEEN IN PICTURES.
