Ambrotype of a serious teenage boy, unusual in that his name has been scratched on the reverse side of the plate, in the varnish. I have been collecting for 40 years and have never seen an ambrotype identified this way (because if not done carefully, the name would be visible in the image in reversed lettering). I believe his name reads \"Samuel M. Mitchell\"Sixth plate, 2.75\" x 3.25\", in a full case split at the hinge. The case and mat style indicate early 1860s.I will combine postage, please see my other sales for other daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes.
