Abeautiful English solid sterling silver chalice. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1972with the makers marks being A E Jones, a very highly regarded firm. It was madeas a commemorative piece to mark the 900th anniversary of the building ofLincoln Cathedral and is engraved Lincoln Cathedral 1072-1972. I am pretty surethese were made in a limited number of 900 and number starting from the year1072, the number on the base of this one is 1834 (hence 1834 – 1072 = 762,hence this is number 762). I also recall that its design was based on one foundduring excavations. It has a beautiful design having a broad base and bowl anda superbly cast knopped stem. It is in superb condition being free from dingssplits and repairs, just a single tiny mark. It comes complete with its original case. It measures a touch over 4 inches (10.5cms) tall by 3.5inches (9cms) wide and weighs a respectable 188 grams (excluding the case).A very nicely made interesting piece.
