Thisstriking child\'sminiature tea set dates to c1895-1900. Made for childrenstea parties at playtime and to teach little girls the proper decorum formanaging a home, the little set comprises:

Teapot, 4-1/2 inches tall
Open sugar bowl, 1-5/8 inches tall, 3 inches across
Creamer or milk jug, 2-1/4 inches tall
4 Cups, 2 inches tall and,
4 Saucers, 3-7/8 inches across.

Theset is transfer printed in brilliant cobalt blue sometimes called flow blue abundantlydecorated with busy Aesthetic Movement design featuring a sailboat and tailship in harbor surrounded by dogwood flowers, castles, and other landscape, a niceexample of the Victorian love of nature and the exotic.

Theset was made in the Staffordshire region of England. The exact maker is unknown.One piece of the set is marked “British Made” and “Seaview”. The set dates tothe latter part of the nineteenth century.

Theset is in overall very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Stiltmarks, transfer skips and wrinkles original to the making and consistent withage. Not fine china, and not meant to be; it was crudely madefor children and probably considered disposable. The transfers are not alwaysaligned neatly and there is some runny glaze and bumps and dips and transferwrinkle and overflown blue glaze on bottom occurring in the factory. The naïveand hasty style adds to the folksy charm. Theset displays beautifully. Agreat example of naive and whimsical early wares! Offered as is.
