A one of a kind late 19th century Chinese export silver and gilt wire

cloisonne enamel vase.

Signed in characters and stamped under base S.M.

The design and workmanship very much in the Japanese manner,

perhaps a Chinese - Japanese collaboration.

The hallmark S.M. we have observed in Chinese export silver.

Tapering form and sharply cut shoulder.

Hand carved fruit and floral tree. Bird perched to branch,

accented with multi-color cloisonne with gold (gilt)

wire work.

Cloisonne butterflies and dragon fly in flight.

Base and upper neck with traditional hand engraved Japanese

winged and geometric border work.

Never monogrammed.

This late 19th century Chinese export sterling &

cloisonne vase 6 inches and 4 1/2 standard ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.

In very fine condition.

Rich sterling throughout.

Retains original detail.

Firm on table or shelf.

The gold (gilt) and cloisonne enamels in fine state.
