Shown here is an elegant looking Victorian/antique style reproduction tree stand made of cast iron, I think (it weighs about 21# without packaging). It is heavy and sturdy to hold a pretty large live tree, but can also screw closed to accommodate a smaller diameter artificial tree trunk. The base measures about 15\" x 15\" and 5\" high, with a 7\" diameter opening. The screw heads take up a little bit of that 7\" opening when fully opened (see pix).
