1stAsst. Eng’r James Atkins, U.S.N., U.S. Str.“Metacomet,” West’rn Gulf Block’dg Squadron – Via New Orleans.

This vessel was a wooden side-paddle gun boat which played asignificant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay which had just takenplace the week before this posting.

The cover has a small stain at top and some minor edge flaws asshown in the scanned images.
