original Civil War Confederate letterdated Dec 8th 1863. Some of the writing is hard to read I translated the best I could. The letter reads:
My Dear William:
I write to you again hoping that some of my letters may reach you....................Could I be assured that you are standing the confinment of prison life I would be contented. Could we hear occassionally from yourself and cousin W- we would be happy at home, for as yet the war has not caused us to suffer.........George Spruill is dead................Lt. Gardner is a prisoner on Johnson\'s Island. Rumor says Capt. McCracken of \"Dixie Boys\" is killed. There is no prospect of you being exchanged soon. Study is a good way to pass off time.
