One page pencil manuscript letter, from H.A. Pierce to doctor regarding medicine and certificate ( for disability in infantry). 12” x 8 “, fold lines, a few edge tears, overall vg- Fine cond. Amhurst C.H November 2nd 1861Dr. B. P. Moss(?)Dear sirI intended to go to your house today, but a call to Lynchburg prevents.My condition is much improved, my stomach gets sore sometimes I’ve taken all the iron(?) you gave me and if you think I ought to take more, please send it by the boy as well as any other medicine you may think proper for me.I go to Richmond Sunday morning to apply for some position in the army that will suit my health better, and for this purpose I want your certificate to state what my condition is and so worded as to indicate that though unfit for the infantry service I might still be of good service and some other (?) position in the army.I will return here from Richmond and will come to see you before leaving finally for duty, when you can give me a prescription by which I am determined to follow to the letter and get well if possible, Your friend,H A Pierce
