Historic \"Andersonville Prison Stockade and Hospital\" Print
c. 1866 Broadside Print titled, \"Andersonville Prison Stockade and Hospital,\" measuring 26.25\" x 20\", Very Fine.
This important, popular and historic large Broadside style Print shows some particularly graphic, gruesome scenes of Andersonville Prison and its prisoners. It is based on an original sketch by Sergeant Felix de la Baume, and printed by John W. January. Andersonville was a Confederate Prison camp in Southern Georgia. It was meant to house up to 10,000 prisoners. At one point, however, the prison population grew to an estimated 32,000 prisoners. Among the 45,000 prisoners who were held at Andersonville at one time or another, as many as 13,000 died. Showing the bold header reading, \"Let Us Forgive, But Not Forget,\" across the top, the print details many of the deplorable conditions of the prison camp and the atrocities suffered there by the prisoners. Some even light tone to the paper, slightly chipped outer selvage edges, overall in very fine condition for framing and display.
