- - -TheChronicles at - - -This scarce original 1861 Civil War Harper\'s Weekly bound volume
contains twenty four 16 page issues of this famous illustrated newspaperAnd at our price, that\'s only about $12 per issue These issues are packed with great news and illustrations of Civil War battles such as Bull Run,Generals & troops, Maps and plans, Slavery issues, Important actions in various cities and States,Cartoons of Abraham Lincoln, Curious Civil War era ads, and much more.Includes the scarce 4 page US map in the November 9, 1861 issue. Those maps are often missing or in poor condition. Our issue is in pretty nice condition having been stored in the bound volume over its lifetime. However, there is some moderate edge wear to the pages in that issue, but not affecting the print to any significant degree. As with all bound volumes, this map appears as two separate leaves due to the binding & printing process. But can be rejoined nicely. Each issue has around 15 to 25 illustrations. Several are full page, and often there\'s a 2 page centerfold. And many contain collectible illustrations by noted American artists such as Winslow Homer(See images #3 & #4 above and descriptions below) Reading these papers will carry you back to those turbulent times over 150 years ago.We picked a few illustrations from a few random issues.Here\'s a description of those illustrations displayed above:

September 7, 1861 issueThis scarce bound volume covers the Civil War action from July through December of 1861.All items being offered by The Chronicles, are from a large collection
that we acquired from an avid collector & dealer of Scarce Paper Americana in the late 1900s
They include newspapers, documents, books, maps and images, with a focus on the civil war era
All items are genuine originals. We do not handle copies or reproductionsUnlike modern paper items, early newspapers & documents made before 1880
generally remain in very nice condition even after centuries of agingThe reason for this is that these early paper items were made with pure cotton & linen,
whereas modern paper is made with wood fiber that often rapidly discolors and gets weak & brittle
