An original Civil Warletter. It is dated Hilton Head S.C.July 11th 1865. The cover is included which has the send to address of Huntington Connecticut and the postmark of Port Royal, S.C.In the letter it looks likehe mentions the 32nd U.S. Colored Infantry.Some of the writing is a little hard to read, I translated the best I could.The letter reads:

My Dearest Amina:

Another step has been taken homeward.............Gen. formerly Col. Noble is with us now & I suppose will command the Regt. on its homeward journey I saw him last night & he thought weshould not go home before the first of next month......Selah has been offered an officers commission if he will stay by Col. Beard of the 32nd U.S.C.I but he thinks he has been in the army long has wear and some stain marks, the cover has some wear.
