For many years I have been dealing coins and medals. This, I think, is one of the best items that I have had the privilege to sell.

Here is an authentic Civil War medal, from the state of West Virginia. (As you know, West Virginia was created by the Civil War; it was carved from the western counties of Virginia that were sympathetic to the North.)

Size: About 2 1/2\" by 1 1/2\"

The obverse: The Top Bar reads\"HONORABLY DISCHARGED\" with a interlocking \"WV\"; the medal shows the State Seal of West Virginia and the dates 1861 1865.

The reverse: The medal reads \"PRESENTED BUY THE STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA\". There is rim engraving identifying the Civil War soldier. It reads \"GUSTAVAS A. DOWLER BAT Y D 1st REG Lt ARTLY VOL\" (I think that means \"Gustavus A. Dowler, BatteryCompany D First Regular Light Artillery Volunteer.\")

Condition: Spectacular! Almost new, flawless. (The ribbon is missing.)

Interestingly,there is a listing in the website \"Find a Grave\" for Gustavus Dowler.Here is his tombstone from\"Find a Grave\". Look it up! Here is what it says about him:
