This lot comprises a War dated letter from the Washington Navy Yard on May 6, 1861, whereby R.P. Strong, then serving in the 71st. New York Militia, writes concerning his worries about getting his promotion and that:\"...Tonight I go to Annapolis...We apprehend an attack on the train tonight...\"

Strong would get his appointment as an officer in the 71st. He then served in the 139th New York, and finally transferred again to the Army Signal Corps. He ended the war as a Brevet Major.

There is nothing on the back of the letter.
