Pewter Tankard

Lovely hammered thirties style pewter tankard presented to the Hon Peter Aitken in 1939. Peter Rudyard Aitken was born in 1912, the son of the first Lord Beverbrook. He died in 1947 in Sweden in a boating accident.
A racing road circuit was built in Crystal Palace Park in 1936. The 20th May meeting was the first for that year in 1939 but motor racing was disbanded by September and did not recommence until after the war. The 20th May meeting was for the Sydenham Plate and Peter Aitken, driving a Delage 3.0 had a burst tyre so did not complete the course.
The tankard has been engraved with Crystal Palace, Hon P Aitken,20.5.39 and Presented by The Dunlop Rubber Company and a smallenamelled square in the centre which I think says DRC. The tankard is about 11.5cm high and 9.2 cm wide at the widest point and is glass bottomed. The tankard is in goodcondition.
