Anangu lands cover the entire central and south-western desert areas of Australia and incorporate the Uluru/Katatjuta National Park. Having fought successfully to regain their lands, these communities have retained many elements of their traditional lifestyle and culture.

The production of their crafts is connected to the Tjukurpa (Creation Law). This is expressed in the designs etched or burnt into Maruku craft, symbolising great ancestral journeys that explain the desert landscape and give meaning to Anangu life.
