Character Keys are based on an old-time traditional animator\'s term, “key,” which was (and still is at some studios) a color thumbnail of a character or background element with color reference. The Character Key artwork is reproduced on a clear acetate cel, which “floats” above an illustrated lithographic backing board. The cel features a color rendition of the character, while the background features sketches and color references.

Instead of a cell-based illustration of the character over the lithographic background board, the Character Key Variants include a jumbo, high quality, limited edition collectible pin of the character.

Each Acme Archives limited edition pin comes with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.

The original retail release is through the HotArt.hk website. Licensing restrictions limit the retail purchase of these limited edition pins to residents of Hong Kong and Mianland China.

Character Key Variant Pins are handcrafted to Japanese Quality Standards. Each pin must pass a visual inspection before its release. While no two pins will be exactly alike because each pin is hand-filled, this rigorous inspection process insures that every limited edition pin is of the highest quality.

Each limited edition character key variant pin comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Can easily remove the pin from the backing artwork. It’s important to keep the backing board and matting, however, because they contain the certificate of authenticity and the edition number for the pin.
