This print depicts an ambulance dog (search dog) barking his alert that he has found a wounded man on the battlefield. The dog is identified as one trained by Major Richardson (the famous WWI war dog trainer Col.E. H. Richardson). THe caption also explains that this dog served in the The Russo–Japanese War (1904 –1905), also called theManchurian Campaign. It was a conflict that grew out of the rival imperial ambitions of the Russian Empire and Japanese Empire over Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were Southern Manchuria, specifically the area around the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden, and the seas around Korea, Japan, and the Yellow Sea.

This is a black-and-white plate from an extremely rare book that is almost 100 years old. It has a blank back, meaning it was printed separately from the text for better quality and then tipped in or sewn into the book when it was bound. It would look wonderful framed.

The paper is heavy and of quality. The picture is nicer than the scan with cleaner tones and better details. The page measures approx.4.6 x7.25 inches, and the picture (without margins) is approx.3.5 x5.5inches.
