This was my brother\'s football in the 1950s. It was made for Sears, their J.C. Higgins line of sporting equipment. It is pebbled calfskin, with real laces. As the picture shows, the laces are a little worn. And at one end, the calfskin has worn away to an inner white lining. Maybe mice chewed it? Other than that, the football is intact, though partly deflated.Stamped into the ball is the replicated autograph of All-American Doak Walker, as well as the J.C. Higgins logo.Doak Walker was an All-American halfback at Southern Methodist University in the 1940s. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1948. Later he had an NFL career for six seasons with the Detroit Lions. Starting in 1990, the Doak Walker Award, named in his honor, has been given to the top running back in college football.This is quite a collectible item.
