Capability, Usefullness and Verstility:

The DRYLANDBACKPACK is a device that is easy to use and carry by hand while out searching for targeted areas of interest. Once an area is identified it can be deployed immediately and used to collect the loosened material in either dry or wet conditions, within the narrow places of crevices, around, in and under rock.

You don\'t need special and/or expensive teflon lubricants for a piston or have to change out a piston to start collecting from a wet to dry condition. With FissureMan bellows technology there is no piston and therefore no friction drag (and subsequent wear) caused by a piston in contact with a cylinder wall. This same virtue eliminates excess user fatigue since there is no real friction generated to work against.

These pictures exhibit the vacuum pressure developed within a closed DLHD BASIC Hand Dredge body.

The first is with the bellows relaxed and the second with the bellows extended while connected to a vacuum/pressure gage.

The vacuum pressure developed went from 0 to 20 cm/Hg or 8 inch of Hg (mercury) with the bellows extended.

To calculate this reading out to the familiar form of pressure known as \"psi\" or pounds per square inch -

1 inch of mercury = 0.4911 psi - so 8 inches Hg multiplied by 0.4911 = 3.9288 psi.

For even more familiar/commonplace references (when connected to the same gage):

A new Kirby vacuum cleaner provides 1 inch of Hg vacuum pressure.

A typical turkey baster provides .5 inch of Hg vacuum pressure.

Obviously this device is hand operated and the suction developed will be pulsed rather than continuousas withpowered \"crack vacs\", however, the vacuum pressure developed on each extension of the bellows is much stronger, 8 times stronger, than a high quality powered vacuum cleaner running continuously.

This means that even heavier material can be suctioned up with ease on each stroke!

There arethose who would have you believe that a typical piston design hand dredge will suction dry material.

WRONG!

Piston actuated hand dredges rely on water to make a complete seal at the surface of the moving piston to function as an effective material collection device. You could add an expensive teflonsurface lubricant to produce an airtight piston seal but the effect will beminimally temporaryand would require multiplereapplication of lubricant as it getsscraped away with the dry material during suction strokes.

The bellows design of the DRYLAND BACKPACKusesair rather than water to move the dry material into a completely sealed hand dredge body.

The suction generated with the bellows is directed to the nozzle tip only and the dry material can then lifted within the air stream to the collection cup - no lubricant is needed at all!.

The bellows design has no internal moving parts and while constructed for use with air, it also works effectively and efficiently with water for collection without any alteration to a piston seal.

There is no aggravating noise generated with this device during use as found with conventional powered \"crack vacs\".

The supplied nozzles are suited for getting into narrow seams and cracks and are easily attached or detached as the connection point for each nozzle has been constructed for a slip fit design.

OPERATION

To use the DRYLAND BACKPACKall the user needs to doonce a likely rock crevice is located is break the entrapped material loose with suitable tools and pick out the large pebbles then suck up the remaining dirt, sand and hopefully gold.

When the crevice has been cleaned out to your satisfaction or the collection cup is full, merely detach the collection cup from the bellows head and pour it out into another container to be held for later processing to remove any captured gold.

When metal detecting for nuggets, the DRYLAND BACKPACKcan be used as a puffer to blow away the loose dirt and debris from within a crevice to expose a nugget that may otherwise be obscured by the dirt left in the crack after you have manually cleaned it out with other tools. Be sure to have some safety glasses on so you don\'t end up with dirt and debris in your eyes.
