EARLY ANTIQUE AAFA FOLK ART LARGE ROBINS EGG BLUE HARVEST NARROW SPLINT BASKET

Up for sale is this wonderful old robin\'s egg blue splint basket. It\'s big, it\'s old and it has a great look to it. What a great color!! It\'s a great basket or cradle that\'s worn and aged in all the right ways. The basket is hand painted and the paint appears to be original / old (not painted recently like other \"originals\" we see online, we didn\'t mess with this one). We don\'t know the exact age or origin of this item but we think this is possibly from the NE United States. The basket has high sides that raise up and are canted out slightly.
The splints are more narrow than other splint baskets we have seen. The splints on the sides are a little over .5\" wide and the ones on the bottom are 1-7/8\" wide. Each end has a thicker strap that comes up, over the splints for support. On one end it\'s a little faded near the top for about 3\" down from the top. It\'s not unattractive but it is noticeable.
This great looking basket has very few issues and no breaks in the splints that we can see. There are nails around the rim and in to the bottom of the basket. The nails are rusty (we love it) and bent over on the inside to hold the splint rim together. The basket has a great look to it and we think the pictures tell a pretty good story about the basket\'s very nice condition.
The basket is a wonderful soft robin\'s egg blue. It\'s faded some over time andit has some variations in color, patina and fading as you can see in the pictures. The paint has some edge wear. Wow! We\'ve tried to show all of this in the pictures
The basket measures 23.5\" L x 15\" W x 7.5\" H and weighs about 3.5 lbs.
It\'s in great condition for its age. The basket would look amazing in any home.
