EARLY/MID 19TH CENTURY FLORAL MOTIF & VERSE SAMPLER BY JANE ROBINSON - 1840:

Early/mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Jane Robinson - 1840. This sampler is just stunning with fine quality stitch work throughout. The top section of the linen is stitched with a central flower basket with a floral urn and small floral motifs on either side and unerlined with a red block border. The central section of the linen is stitched with the following short verse with a tree to the right and Jane\'s details beneath, all underlined with a triangulated and floral border

The bottom section of the linen is stitched with a central floral urn with a flower basket to the left and right and flowers above. The whole thing is then surrounded by an exquisite meandering floral border.The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with the odd, small dark mark and a very small, barely noticeable area of damage on the right side of the floral border. The colours of the wool are good with some areas of missing stitch work to the triangulated part of the border beneath Jane\'s details, a fair amount to the outermost edging border (not the floral one) and the odd stitch elsewhere. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Jane first stitched it. Measures 18\" x 20 1/2 \"
