WE HAVE OTHER JEWELRY LISTED--PLEASE LOOK!

Most of our jewelry comes from Estate sales in the Atlanta Georgia area.

This is a very old vintage Jacla (jocla) necklace with both blue and green turquoise stonesand shell heishi. The turquoise is all natural with no dyes or treatments of any kind. It also has coral beads and spiny oyster shell \"corn\" on the bottoms of the jacla. The necklace is three strands and strung traditionally on string.

This necklace is especially desirable because of the goldstone, mother-of-pearl and turquoise \"sing tie\", which is incredibly rare.
\"Sings\" are a complex system of Navajo healing ceremonies that are designed to restore equilibrium to the cosmos. As part of Navajo religious practices, they are considered to be highly spiritual, sacred, and private events. The sing tie is worn at these ceremonies to invoke positive blessings and to avert misfortune.

Jacla is Navajo for “ear string”. Although jaclas are attributed to the Rio Grande Pueblo Indians, they were traded with other tribes so have become associated with the Navajo as well. They are seen in vintage photos being worn by members of all southwest tribes, both men and women. Most jaclas have tabular pieces in the bottom center that are called “corn”. According to Mark Bahti, author of Collecting Southwestern Native American jewelery, jaclas with spiny oyster shell corn are highly prized by many Indians.

In the oldest style necklaces, the jacla is a pair of loop earrings tied onto the necklace. The two loops would be removed from the necklace and used as earrings. This is how the jacla originated. An earlyNative Americanwould take his or her jewelry off and store it that way. And sometimes when not wanting to wear earrings, just leaving the jacla on the necklace as a pendant.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Stunning.

It weighsa substantial184.8 grams. The necklace hangs down 20\" total, from top to bottom. The jaclas are 5\".
