Ed Koch & Bess Myerson —7 political fliers
from New York City
1977This is a group of 7 duplicate copies of a campaign flier distributed in New York City mayoral race in 1977. They measure 8.5 x 11 inches in size, and are printed front-and-back. All but one of the fliers are in fine condition, with the other having a ½-inch band of browning along its top edge. The piece urges voters to come out to the polls for the Democratic Primary Runoff on Sept. 19th, and says:“ED KOCH FOR MAYOR.” The handbill has a photo of Koch on the front side, shown along with Bess Myerson, the former Miss America and TV star who went on to a lengthy political career in New York. This was the race that successfully put Koch in the Mayor\'s office for the first time. On the reverse side there is an extensive text outlining many of Koch\'s positions on the issues of the day. This includes Jobs; Fiscal Management; Police; Education; Human rights; Ending the Ripoffs; and Neighborhood Preservation. Among its points, it says:“. . . we can\'t convince business to move here unless we reduce crime . . . and end the ripoffs and mismanagement which make out taxes so high. . . Out of a police force of 25,000, only 1500 actually patrol the streets on an average shift. More than that call in sick every day. . . . Ed Koch will put police back on the streets . . . Ed Koch is a strong supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment . . . Ed Koch fought for the civil rights of blacks in the South in the early 1960s and more recently for the rights of Soviet Jews. . . . It\'s a disgrace that so much money that\'s meant to go to the people who need it most is ripped off by poverty profiteers. . . . During the blackout, Ed Koch showed that he thought the looted areas in Harlem, the Bronx, and Brooklyn deserved the same protection as we would have given Fifth Avenue. . . / HANDLING TERMS: Add a flat $ 2.95 for delivery by 1st Class Mail anywhere in the U.S. Pennsylvania residents, add 6% tax.
