A hand woven Aubusson tapestry of dancing peasants in a field with musicians.The foreground shows lush trees with birds. The background shows a Roman viaduct, hills, and a cottage. The border consists of fruti and flowers.
The colors green, reds, golds, and creams with some blues are present throughout this magnificent tapestry. Woven in the lower corners are \"Aubusson\" and \"Teniers\". The subject matter is from a painting by David Tenier, a Flemish painter of the 17th century.
It has been backed in a heavy white muslin fabric. The piece dates circa 1760, as per appraisal by expert Vernon M. Abrams (Atlanta) Size is 56\" wide by 63\" high. Aprox 5.3ft x 4.6ft.
Great condition. Shows marking consistent with age and material.
