MAGNIFICENTANTIQUEJAPANESE BRONZEUSUBATA VASE
RARE AND EXQUISITE QUALITY Edo / Meiji Period (1800\'s)

Exquisite, nineteenth century Japanese bronze vase of exceptionally rare museum quality. Striking formfeaturinghighly detailed cranes, hand cast employing the lost wax method, gracefullyflying around the body of the vase. The casting is absolutely superb, with dramaticthree dimensionalwingsdisplaying individual feathers. The cranes fly upon a highly patinated ground of rich depth and astounding beauty.Swirling clouds envelop the outer bowl, and the base of the superb usubata is rendered in Hokusai-like waves, undulating most gracefully. The lively sense of motion is both artistic and harmonious in the traditional Japanese aesthetic and changes wonderfully in the light.Heavily cast, and in excellent antique conditionbearing a stunning deepbrown patina. The feel and texture of this piece in the hand is utterly sublime. Measures approximately 10\" high and 11\" wide. Most likelycommissioned for a Daimyo or wealthy samurai family nearly two centuries ago, the vase is signed on the underside. We just got this piece in from an estate in Japan and have not yet translated the signature, however it is certainlythe work of one of the topartisans of the period. A true masterpiece, rarely seen on the open market, representing the finest of theShogunera aesthetic. A sublime centerpiece for the discriminating connoisseur of world-class Japanese antiques.
