I offer in this lot an extraordinarily fine Minton Pate sur pate porcelain cabinet plate  by Alboin Birks (Signed), Minton’s Pate Sur pate is the exiting factories most celebrated achievement from its diverse variety of products. Further more the world class ceramics authority John Sandon concurs that “Above all else Minton is famed for its Pate sur pate, whereby a design was built up in white clay on a darker ground before glazing” p149 paragraph 2 - Beginning to Collect Antique Porcelain.

This plate has three roundels with figures seemingly deriving from classical mythology, they have been built up in white slip, the painstaking process was very time consuming but the effect as you see stunning.  One of the roundels bears the full signature A Birks, the others bear Birks monogram.  the panels linked with swags and pendants in raised/ jewelled and acid etched highlights as shown around a central formalised reserve in a stylistically according flavour.

In 1870 the greatest exponent Marc Louis Solon arrived from Sevres, his apprentice was the much esteemed Alboin Birks, eventually when Birks became highly experienced the rivalry intensified and Birks produced work that equalled or even arguably surpassed that of the master.

This lot measures 10 5/16 inches in diameter, it has the Minton Gold factory globe mark, impressed mark and date code (difficult to decipher). It has survived in perfect condition with no damage. Condition: perfect, no defects (including gilt wear or crazing), flaws or shortcomings of any kind (apart from tiny traces of wear to base of foot ring were plate has been sitting). I offer this wonderful lot reasonably priced without reserve.
