19th Century Moroccan Koummya Dagger Mounted in Silver:

Antique authentic Moroccan tribal Koummya (or Kumiyah or Koumiyya) dagger, dating back to the early 19th century. This dagger is mounted in heavily engraved silver (about 80-90% of silver content), with flared pommel and curved blade, in its matching scabbard. The engravings are a highly intricate handicraft work, showcasing traditional Moroccan ornaments.

This dagger is a beautiful work of traditional North African weaponry art. Koummya is considered to be a regional variation of the Arabic jambiya dagger, and is characterized by contoured handles, curved double-edged blades and exaggeratedly upturned scabbard tips. Traditionally, Koummya daggers are worn on the left side at the waist level, vertically suspended and with the scabbard tip forward. This Koummya, along with a number of other pieces listed separately, was acquired from a Northern Moroccan family who owned it for many generations.
