19th Century Moroccan Koumiyya Dagger Mounted in Silver:
$970.00

Early 19th century authentic Moroccan tribal Koummya dagger, also spelled Kumiyah and Koumiyya. dagger. Elaborately crested and engraved pommel, ferrule and scabbard wrought entirely of silver (about 80-95% of silver content). Curved, single-edged blade. The back side of the scabbard is covered in copper.

This dagger is a beautiful work of traditional North African weaponry art. Koummya is considered to be a regional variation of the Arabic jambiya dagger, and is characterized by contoured handles, curved double-edged blades and exaggeratedly upturned scabbard tips. Traditionally, Koummya daggers are worn on the left side at the waist level, vertically suspended and with the scabbard tip forward. This Koummya, along with a number of other pieces listed separately, was acquired from a Northern Moroccan family who owned it for many generations.
