Carol Day Wrighthad a facility for drawing women that quickly caught the eye of both agents and clients, so the man who had aspired to be a technical illustrator, by the outbreak of World War II became Great Britain\'s foremost pin-up artist. His pictures of beautiful women came to be called รข\"lovelies\" and were an immensely popular feature of \"The Sketch\". He later became highly sought after fashion illustrator and then comic artist........................... Wright\'s brilliance at drawing and storytelling art permeates every frame of Carol Day, his comic strip masterpiece featured inThe Daily Mail, which he worked on until his passing in 1967. He would pencil just enough to establish the positions of his characters, then go directly into the art with a #2 sable brush. When this was finished, he would begin the process of building the complex and varied layers of ink textures and cross hatching that described the final image in a sort of visual tone feast. Prior to the last 2 years of the strip, he eschewed the American comics method of glued down zipatone in favor of hand creating these rich surface textures.
...................This is an early-story daily from theSeconds Out!story. This is a second year tale is about Carol\'s romance with American boxer Gene Miller. The daily opens with backlit rendered portraits of Carol Day and roommate Nora Lovell and finishes with an excellent portrait of Gene Miller. One of the few complaints I have with Wright\'s art in Carol Day is that his drawing of men is often not up to the high standards of the women. But Gene Miller here--based on real life boxer Henry Moore--is always well done in this story. As with all Carol Days, this art is drawn on illustration board. Both the image and board are in excellent condition. There is a minor impact dent in the lower left corner, the word balloons are pasted down on and there are some minor dust shadows along a couple borders and a small smudge in the top border (see scans). But other than that the art is in top shape..........................Shipping and handling with the USA is $12 and shipping to Great Britain and Europe is $25.00 for First Class (no tracking) or $45.00 for Global Priority (with tracking). My apologies for the high price for Global Priority, but costs have risen significantly over the past months. And I\'ve gotten a lot of good response about packaging. To my mind, artwork should be shipped with respect. So included in the shipping cost: each piece of art is first sealed in a waterproof bag, then secured to $2.25 worth of reinforced cardboard bound by professional packing tape..................Payment is to be made within 7 days of the conclusion of the sale....Good luck offerding!
