This vessel was manufactured around 6th to 4th Century B.C. using the core-formed method of glassmaking. The shape of this Alabastron was inspired by the common Greek pottery of the period, a form frequently used in core glass.

Core forming is one of the earliest glassmaking technique. Core-formed vessels were created by trailing decorative threads of molten glass over a core of sand, mud or clay to form a vase. Once the glass was in place, the threads could be dragged into decorative patterns, such as a the feathered pattern on our alabastron. Glassmakers then let the vessel cool and remove the core.
