The Tryon Company was actually started just prior to the war of 1812 and furnished firearms to the United States Government during the war. Their first entry into the knife making business appears to have been about the time of the Civil War. The company lasted for over 150 years and became a major force in the sporting goods business. Closing in about 1960.
