If you are having a difficult time finding the perfect romantic piece to pop the question this is your lucky day. Or if you are a July birthday girl, look no further to the most unique ruby I have had in a while. The Victorians used pearls in engagement rings quite a bit, so I have no doubt that this was originally given to a lady to secure the promise of her affections.

I adore finding Victorian pieces in their original boxes. This is truly a treat! The ring is in excellent condition and will come to your in the leather, velvet lined ring box that you see in the pictures. The push button still works!

The ring itself is about as romantic as you can get. A forget-me-not floral design with a central Old European Cut ruby, this ring features an incised star shaped design holding six lustrous seed pearls. The setting is bright rose gold, fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1872. The shoulders of the ring have bands with small seed pearls inset into them. The setting is closed back. A lot of care went into the design of this piece.

Overall, condition on the ring is absolutely excellent. The gold is polished and lacks scratching. The pearls are gorgeous and have retained their lustre-- one appears to be a replacement, and though this is evident in the pics, its far far less obvious on the hand. The ruby appears to be natural. It is cut with a very small table in the Old European Cut fashion. It does look to have a small ding on one side near the bezel if you scrutinize it carefully under 10x magnification, but nothing that is visible on the hand. The color is excellent and bright red. The ruby is about 3mm and the pearls 2mm (the pearls on the shoulders are 1mm each). The ring is a size 6.5 and can be resized.

The ring weighs 2.4 grams and has a wide-ish band at around 5mm. This ring does not appear to have been resized in the past. All the settings are secure.

The box is marked for \"J. Guise\", and unfortunately the top is worn so that I can\'t read the rest.
