An excellent Civil War soldier\'s letter, written by \"Horatio\", to his wife, dated at \"Battlefield Vicksburg\", June 13, 1863. \"Since my last there has been nothing but the same old sing song. There is a constant boom of cannon and a rattle of musketry, with an occasional visit of a minnie ball which sometimes comes rather close to one head to feel pleasant. As I wrote the last line one came very close to my tent missing as it passed. But ther is a bank that prevents them from striking us. Although they can hit the tops of our tents. You may rest asured that I will never fall in love with the excitement of this battlefield unless I see (?) that have not presented themselves yet. I can go wherever it is my duty to go, but I see no fun in gettign shot at. We still expect to take Vicksburg withuot a doubt, and then you know that Grant\'s army will be the Grand Army of the Republick. My opinion is that it will be several weeks before we get it. Say this 4th of July at the soonest. But this is only speculation. It may be only days or it may be months. There is no excitment about Vicksburg in camp for we all expect to take it sometime and we live just as well here as any wheres and so we are content to wait till there (?) time comes.\" More about friends with \"ague\". As it turned out his expectation proved correct and Vicksburg fell on July 4, 1863. Four full pages in ink, most of it is easily read, but a few words are difficult.
