The delight of antique silk…..over the course of the last few weeks, I have unearthed some amazing silk finds: narrow antique silk ombree ribbon, silk millinery flowers, bundles of silk skeins from the archive of a former silk manufacturer in Lyon, samples of find brocade19th century silk fabric and ribbon from the same archive, baby bonnets with silk rosettes (all from France) and an extraordinary cache of unused pure silk floss embroidery thread skeins dating to circa 1910 – unused and delicious! There is also an amazing 18th century hand embroidered silk waistcoat…..do keep checking back to see what I have each week. Unless I am travelling to find more textile treasure, I generally list each Sunday evening.
An absolutely stunning hand embroidered gentleman\'s silk waistcoat in superb condition - mo marks or underam staining, and no damage. Apart from a few missing sequins, this is in extraordinarily good condition given that it dates to circa 1780. This came from the estate of the English composer Malcolm Arnold (1921-2006). The waistcoat is embellished with hand embroidery in silk floss, as well as tiny purple jewels and metal sequins. All the 12 hand embroidered buttons are present. The front of the waistcoat has no marks, stains or damage - the silk appears strong, with no signs of fragility. The back and the lining do have a few marks and slight age-related discolouration - the back and the lining seem to be made of a mixed wool & linen fabric - no damage. There are 2 linen ties at the back. Beautiful pockets (these are proper working pockets, not faux pockets)and pocket flaps. Entirely hand stitched, this is a work of art. Some measurements (all taken with the garment laid flat and measured straight across) outer shoulder edge to outer shoulder edge 33cms, underarm to underarm 48cms. lemgth from shoulder to front points 72cms, length at the back 66cms. Rare to find is such excellent conition - a wonderful find!

PAYMENT
Payment to be made within 3 DAYS of sale end please. My items always end on a Sunday evening, so payment must be received by the following Wednesday evening.
Paypal ONLY for international buyers - no bank transfers.
For UK buyers I accept Paypal (preferred), personal cheques drawn on a UK bank account and uncrossed postal orders. When paying by UK cheque, please note that your item(s) cannot be sent until your cheque has cleared.
All buyers who fail to pay within my 3 day deadline, or who do not contact me to arrange for delayed payment, are automatically added to my blocked buyers list, and will not be able to buy from me again. I also automatically open an unpaid item case against non-paying buyers on the 4th day after sale end.
SHIPPING
I am happy to ship worldwide, and always combine shipping costs on items that end on the same day. I do NOT hold over payment of items from one week to the next - all items must be paid for within 3 days of sale end.
Parcels will be sent by tracked shipping ONLY. Parcels to UK will be sent by Special Next day Delivery, Signed For, or ParcelForce 48 for heavier items. For international destinations, parcels weighing under 2kg will be sent by Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed For, and those that weigh over 2kg. will be sent by Global Priority. Apologies for the higher costs, but this gives both buyer and seller peace of mind, and is now policy.
My items are carefully packed so they reach you safely, and I charge a small fee for packaging materials – this is included in the shipping cost.
I aim to dispatch parcels to my customers within 48 hours of receiving payment.

RETURNS POLICY
Returns are accepted within 14 days, but ONLY if the item has been seriously mis-described, which I try very hard not to do! BUYER pays for return TRACKED shipping. Please note that as I sell unique, antique textiles and ephemera, any item you return MUST be well packed and received in exactly the same condition as sent. NB - returns from international buyers outside the EU please note that any UK customs duty that I incur in order to retrieve a returned international parcel will be deducted from the refund amount.
If a returned item is found to have been worn, laundered, repaired or damaged in any way, thereby compromising its value, I will only make a partial refund according to the condition. Once I have received the item in return, and have verified its condition, I will refund your original payment and original shipping costs within 3 working days.

Because of this, I am unable to offer a seamless “Amazon-like” service, with dispatch of parcels within 24 hours, and free domestic shipping.
